Parents voice safety concerns after large fight at East Allegheny HS

Parents filled the room to voice their concern for their children’s safety after a large fight broke out last Friday at East Allegheny High School in North Versailles.

Several parents told the school board that how they handled the fight was not acceptable and said the school isn’t safe.

“I shouldn’t be hearing from teachers that they are afraid to come to school. I shouldn’t be hearing from students that they are petrified to come to school,” one parent told Channel 11’s Catherine Varnum.

Parents were not notified about the fight until Monday. Parents were about threats on social media saying that there would be a shooting at the school.

East Kilbride child sex abuse charity facing closure after devastating break-in

A LIFELINE charity in East Kilbride for victims of child sex abuse is battling to survive following a devastating break-in.

SAVI Kids (Sexual Assault Victims Initiative) was forced to suspend its vital services following the brazen raid towards the end of last year which saw its town centre base ransacked and office equipment destroyed – all for just £38 in stolen cash.

For the last eight years, the specialist support service – the only one of its kind in Scotland – has helped thousands of vulnerable children and their families.

The charity was available 24/7 with its own dedicated helpline.

But due to a lack of funding, the helpline was no longer feasible and SAVI Kids is now struggling to stay open.

Source: National Cyber Security – Produced By Gregory Evans

Hackers are probing the defences of banks in the Middle East, targeting employees with infected emails which gather information about the banks’ network and user accounts, FireEye researchers said. ‘Staggering’ Rates of Child Abuse in East, Southern Africa

A new report finds that children across East and Southern Africa suffer huge amounts of abuse.  UNICEF says this epidemic of violence hurts more than just the children – it hurts society.

Researchers say they have found a “staggering incidence” of violence against children in East and Southern Africa.

The numbers, indeed, are hard to swallow. The new study, released Tuesday, found that that two in five girls under 18 have endured sexual abuse and that more than seven in 10 children have reported severe beatings at home or school. In Tanzania, for example, kids said those beatings included being kicked or punched.

Middle East hackers extort $10 million from two Indian companies to hide information from government

Source: National Cyber Security – Produced By Gregory Evans

Two Indian conglomerates were forced to pay $5 million each in order to prevent hackers from disclosing information that could have implicated them in wrongdoing. The payoff was made in May, but people aware of the matter said the hackers would have obtained access to the IT systems of the companies two to three years before that, reflecting a widespread vulnerability that criminals are looking to exploit when the time is right. This is said to be the first known case of cyber criminals extorting money from large Indian companies. ET has pieced together the story by speaking to executives, private investigators and officials. The break-ins and threats weren’t reported to the authorities for fear that the information thus provided could have proven incriminating — hence the involvement of private detectives. The threat is said to have emanated from the Middle East although it’s not clear whether it goes back even further. The companies were told to pay up or face the consequences of the data being passed on to the Indian government, one person said. The blackmail demands came a few months after a scam involving thefts of documents from the petroleum and other minstries erupted earlier this year. […]
