St. Louis police chief defends fatal shooting by officers

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The police chief on Thursday unapologetically defended the fatal shooting of a black 18-year-old who was killed by two white officers in a confrontation that drew protesters and unrest back to the streets.

Protesters pledged to stand firm. Said the director of a group called the Organization for Black Struggle: “We will not go away.”

Mansur Ball-Bey, who police said had a handgun, was shot as officers raided a home in a violence-plagued part of north St. Louis. Within an hour of Wednesday’s shooting, more than 100 people converged on the scene, taunting officers and decrying the use of deadly force.

Is St. Louis under cyber attack? Probably not

Source: National Cyber Security – Produced By Gregory Evans

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Is St. Louis at the center of a cyber attack from China? A company that monitors threats on the internet shows a large amount of traffic headed into the area from China.  They say this map posted online may be misleading.  There are a lot of traps at their administrative headquarters based in St. Louis that make it look like the area is under attack. According to Norsecorp’s Twitter profile they offer, “Live threat intelligence & unmatched visibility into the darkest corners of the Internet.”  A map on the company’s website shows a lot of activity coming from locations in china to IP addresses located mostly in St. Louis, Kirksville and Seattle. The majority of targets listed in the map are located in the US with origins in China. For those following the rumors of a concentrated cyber attack on St. Louis via China, reporter Paul Schankman has information from the company causing the stir.  The company’s administrative headquarters is based St. Louis. Because of that, a disproportionately high number of the electronic “honeypots” they use to find suspicious activity are in the area. The map being circulated showing the activity is a public page […]

Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Hit by Cyber Attack

Source: National Cyber Security – Produced By Gregory Evans

According to investigative reporter Brian Krebs, the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis has acknowledged that its domain name servers were hijacked last month by attackers who redirected Web searches and queries for domains run by the St. Louis Fed to phishing sites. The St. Louis Fed’s advisory states that “on April 24, 2015, computer hackers manipulated routing settings at a domain name service (DNS) vendor used by the St. Louis Fed so that they could automatically redirect some of the Bank’s Web traffic that day to rogue Web pages they created to simulate the look of the St. Louis Fed’s research.stlouisfed.org website, including Web pages for FRED, FRASER, GeoFRED and ALFRED.” The advisory notes that “users who were redirected to one of these phony websites may have been unknowingly exposed to vulnerabilities that the hackers may have put there, such as phishing, malware and access to user names and passwords.” As a result, the St. Louis Fed says, the attackers may have accessed the user name and password of anyone who tried to log into research.stlouisfed.org on April 24, 2015. Passwords have been reset in response. While a St. Louis Fed spokeswoman told The New York Times that she […]
