Celebrity hacker busted after trying to sell stolen scripts to undercover agents

A Bahamas-based hacker was busted for trying to sell scripts, personal information, and sexually explicit pictures and videos of celebrities that he stole from his famous victims’ personal email accounts, authorities said Tuesday. Alonzo Knowles, 23, of Freeport, Bahama was arrested in Manhattan Monday after trying to sell scripts to an undercover agent, according to U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara. Knowles tried selling scripts from a hit TV show to an unidentified radio host, and also offered to sell sexually explicit images and videos that he had stolen from the personal email accounts of various celebrities and sports figures to undercover agents, prosecutors said. “This case has all of the elements of the kind of blockbuster script the defendant, Alonzo Knowles, is alleged to have stolen: hacks into celebrities’ private emails, identity theft, and attempts to sell victims’ information to the highest bidder. Unfortunately, these circumstances are all too real,” Bharara said. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations began looking into Knowles, also known as Jeff Moxey, this month after a tip from an unnamed radio host. The celebrity-obsessed cyber criminal told an undercover agent earlier this month that he had “exclusive content” that was “really profitable” and […]

Undercover cop answers Craigslist ad for a hacker

A US man from the state of Pennsylvania – who, evidently, doesn’t quite understand that police use computers and has never heard of Tor – is looking at 2 to 4 years in jail for trying to recruit a cybercriminal to erase his court records and wipe out $16,000 he owed in fines. He wanted those fines to go away. So Zachary J. Landis posted a listing on Craigslist …using his personal email and phone number, according to ABC27 news. What’s that noise? Do you hear it? I think it’s the sound of police laughing hysterically. Yes, Landis wound up trying to hire an undercover cop. According to a release from Lancaster County District Attorney (DA) Craig Stedman’s office, Derry Township police discovered the Craigslist ad. They shuffled it over to the DA’s office. Then, one of the DA’s detectives got in touch with Landis, posing as a cyber-genius who was up for the work. “Caveat emptor,” Landis must have been muttering to himself. Before shelling out for the job, Landis told the detective to erase a bit of that $16,000 – just to prove he could. The negotiations included Landis sending the supposed hacker three docket sheets – a pretty […]

Undercover investigation leads to child porn charges against Ford City man

An Armstrong County man has been arrested on child pornography charges, Attorney General Kathleen Kane announced Monday.

Shawn Kunkle, 44, was arrested Thursday by agents with the Attorney General’s Child Predator Section at his Ford City residence.

Kunkle is accused of possessing and distributing child porn using a peer-to-peer file sharing network, Kane said.

According to Kane’s office, agents discovered multiple video files depicting suspected child pornography associated with an IP address belonging to Kunkle during an undercover investigation in June.

Agents, along with officers from the Ford City Police Department, executed a search warrant at Kunkle’s residence and recovered two computers with several files indicative of child pornography, Kane said.
