6-month-old Jacksonville boy dies a day after baby sitter arrested

A 6-month-old Jacksonville boy died Wednesday, a day after his 65-year-old baby sitter was initially charged with aggravated child abuse and now murder, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Barbara Kay Kendrick called 911 about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday after first going to a neighbor for help because Cooper Dubovik had stopped breathing, police said. When officers arrived at Kendrick’s home in the 2000 block of Davis Road, the neighbor was performing CPR, according to Kendrick’s arrest report. The report said the child appeared to be unconscious with fluid coming from his nose and mouth.

Cooper was transported to a hospital in life-threatening condition, and doctors determined he had internal injuries from some type of trauma.
