Hacker #stole £10k from #jazz #charity

Source: National Cyber Security News

A jazz centre, headed up by Westcliff musician Digby Fairweather, was targeted by an online fraudster, it has been revealed.

Hackers accessed an account belonging to the Southend-based Jazz Centre UK and stole £10,000.

Fortunately, the charity had its money refunded by the bank, but Mr Fairweather said people must be vigilant to rising cyber crime.

He said: “The Jazz Centre UK online account had two payees set up at the time for small sums. Someone hacked into the account and moved £4,950 twice in a day into these accounts. He then rang both firms saying he was from the jazz centre and the sums had been transferred by mistake and that we owed the money to someone else.

“He asked them to pay it back and then gave them his own account number.”

Mr Fairweather added: “It was virtually all the Jazz centre UK funds but after an inquiry it was the fault of the bank and all the money was refunded – apart from £216.

“It made us very wary of online banking. It could have left us in a great deal of trouble.”

The incident, which happened in October, came to light after it was raised in Parliament by Southend West MP Sir David Amess.

East Kilbride child sex abuse charity facing closure after devastating break-in

A LIFELINE charity in East Kilbride for victims of child sex abuse is battling to survive following a devastating break-in.

SAVI Kids (Sexual Assault Victims Initiative) was forced to suspend its vital services following the brazen raid towards the end of last year which saw its town centre base ransacked and office equipment destroyed – all for just £38 in stolen cash.

For the last eight years, the specialist support service – the only one of its kind in Scotland – has helped thousands of vulnerable children and their families.

The charity was available 24/7 with its own dedicated helpline.

But due to a lack of funding, the helpline was no longer feasible and SAVI Kids is now struggling to stay open.

Domestic Violence Charity Creates Intentionally Offensive PSA (NSFW)

A provocative new public service announcement asks viewers to consider which is more offensive: the “F-word” or domestic abuse.

And it does so by dropping as many F-bombs as possible.

The online PSA is part of a new “F*ck DV” campaign created on behalf of Break The Silence Against Domestic Violence, an anti-abuse charity based in San Diego, California.

All of the people in the video have suffered or witnessed some form of domestic abuse, including the group’s founder, Kristen Faith, who created the video concept.

“Domestic violence is offensive, and so is the F-word,” Faith told HuffPost. “But any form of abuse, verbal and physical, is worse than a mere word.

NIALL HORAN IDENTITY THEFT? PLAYS IRISH CHARITY SOCCER GAME

Source: National Cyber Security – Produced By Gregory Evans

On occasion, fans will do a double-take when they see someone that reminds them of Niall Horan — but is there a whole other person named “Niall Horan” or is Niall the victim of identity theft? As it appears, either Niall Horan is a time traveler or there is another person in this world with the exact same name as Niall. On the other hand, there could be a third reason that Niall Horan mysteriously appeared at a soccer game in Ireland on the same day he was playing concerts in North America — and it does not involve illegal identity theft. Naturally, this is not the first time that someone has been mistaken for Niall Horan. Adding to the long list of doppelgängers, there are also people who are imitating Niall Horan on purpose. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, there are several Niall Horan impersonators out there, and the “Niall Horan” of Mexico is particularly popular. Along those lines, SugarScape reported on December 16, 2014, that there are even girls that look like Niall Horan. Being a person that looks like Niall Horan is not always fun and the Mirror reported on June 4, 2014, that Niall Horan’s […]
