Abilene Couple Arrested on Child Sex Charges

An Abilene couple has been arrested after 2 children under the age of 14 came forward to say they had been sexually abused by them, according to an arrest warrant.

It was last summer that a child told a teacher about the abuse at the hands of 30-year-old Chelsea Diaz and 57-year-old Howard Sturgis, the warrant read.

After an investigation by the Abilene Police Department, court documents say the couple used a rag they sprayed a substance on and would make the children sniff the rag.

Court documents also say when Sturgis was questioned about the abuse he told an investigator he does not remember but the spray he uses as an intoxicant may have made him pass out.

Booker told police that she made several home visits that spanned for months to try and find out why the students were absent, offered the family assistance to help solve the problem, as well as had the mother, identified as Stephanie Cain, attend an attendance panel where she signed a statement promising to fix her children’s absence problem.

A judge on Thursday sentenced them to 3 years of probation and 32 days each already served in the county jail.

Angela Corcoran told the court they are “good people that were put in a difficult situation.
