District’s social media policy questioned following NC teacher’s sex trafficking arrest

Some parents in Pender County are questioning the school system’s social media policies following the arrest of a Topsail High School track coach.

Ahmad Garrison, 27, of Holly Ridge, was charged Wednesday with four additional counts of sexual activity with a student. According to the Pender County Sheriff’s Office, the new charges involve a different alleged victim than the one mentioned when Garrison was first arrested.

Authorities say the parents of the student found inappropriate social media messages between their daughter and Garrison.

The charges left some parents in Pender County concerned about what the school system is doing to protect students.

“It angers me and it upsets me,” said LaCretia Munn, a parent of three daughters in the Pender County School System.

Two teenagers are under arrest following a very disturbing video out of Modesto.

The video posted on Facebook has gone viral and shows kids bullying another kid along a sidewalk. A seemingly helpless student wearing a backpack was brutally tossed to the pavement and also endured a flurry of swear words in the video.

As close to a dozen other students stood by, with some recording on cell phones, they watched as two bullies had their way. One threatened the boy and demanded the boy drop to his knees.

In the less than two minute video, the crowd breaks up and the boy is allowed to walk away.

So why did all the other kids simply watch and laugh and not doing anything to help the kid being bullied?

Xavier College’s past revealed following online bullying scandal

Xavier College’s past revealed following online bullying scandal

It sounds like the worst school on the worst corner of the worst suburb, and yet you pay about $25,000 a year to go there. Xavier College is a prestigious Catholic boys school in Kew in Melbourne with an esteemed alumni — Labor Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, AFL Brownlow medallist Jobe Watson, world champion marathon runner Robert de Castella and Formula One world championship winner Alan Jones. Even Barry Humphries’ character Sir Les Patterson claims he was a student. The school says it aims to produce “reflective, compassionate and articulate men” who will provide “outstanding service and leadership in our world”. But it is often plagued with scandal, and online bullying is the latest transgression to rock the senior boys campus. Its students this week came under fire for taunting public school students on Facebook ahead of the VCE English exam, calling them “povos”. One said he felt glad he went to a private school instead of a “poverty-stricken s–thole in Pakenham”. But Pakenham year 10 student Liam Bottriel was quick to put the elitist bullies of Xavier College in their place. “It says more about how they’ve been brought up, than anything. It’s really sad,” he said. Source: http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/xavier-colleges-past-revealed-following-online-bullying-scandal/story-fnq2o7dd-1227588458896

Cyber bullying: Father crusades to stop bullies after daughter’s suicide following Facebook tirade

6703880-3x2-340x227Michael Cleland was nervous — he had spoken to groups of people before, but he wanted this speech to make an impact, to change behaviour, to save lives.

Students at Glenroy College in Melbourne’s north thought they were in for a boring power-point presentation about cyber bullying — they had heard the warnings before, but never like this.

“Jessica was 18, she was extremely popular in school, she was loving and caring,” Michael began.

Within seconds, the students were silent and enthralled. Within minutes, several were crying.

“Leading right up to Jessica’s death there were no signs of depression, but she committed suicide after being cyber bullied,” the Victorian father continued.
