Vodafone’s ‘unforgivable’ hacking of journalist’s phone must be investigated, says union

Australia’s Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance has called on the privacy commissioner to investigate the circumstances of the “unforgivable” hacking of a journalist’s phone data. On Saturday the Australian published leaked emails that detailed how a day after Fairfax journalist Natalie O’Brien revealed a serious data breach by Vodafone in 2011, there were discussions at Vodafone about unauthorised access to her call charge records and text messages. The company admitted on Sunday that O’Brien’s phone was accessed by an employee. The company claimed this was done for “privacy reasons” and to determine if criminal behaviour had occurred. It denied engaging in any “improper behaviour”. The company said in a statement it had commissioned a top accounting firm to investigate the incident, which found there was “no evidence” Vodafonemanagement had instructed an employee to access O’Brien’s phone records. On Monday MEAA chief executive officer Paul Murphy said the breach was shocking and called on the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) to investigate the circumstances. Montgomery County cops investigated cyber sex crimes suspects for months

559471965e8f4.imageMore than 20 people were arrested as part of an online solicitation of a minor sting operated by the Montgomery County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

A Magnolia Fire Department firefighter, who was terminated after the allegations, was among the 26 people arrested for an alleged online solicitation of a minor or possession of child pornography. The investigation, named Operation Safe Summer, lasted from the beginning of April to the end of May, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon.

Ligon during a press conference Wednesday said with the developing landscape of technology, more and more crimes are being committed online.

At 9:06 p.m., harassing phone calls on Appleton Street. At 10:26 p.m., parking violation, Vehicle parked too near hydrant. Vehicle tagged. Monday, March 9 At 5:02 a.m., past larceny on Highland Avenue. Reporting party stated that someone again entered her apartment and stole various items from her apartment. Door or lock was not damaged. Party was advised to ask management relocate to another apartment or change the locks. At 8:05 a.m., gas leak reported on Jefferson Avenue. Fire Department on the scene.
