Sex offender accused of attempted kidnapping

A convicted sex offender is accused of attempting to kidnap a woman in his room at a Bend halfway house while also possessing child pornography and unlawfully contacting minors online. Probation officers received a tip in July 2015 that Jeffrey Christian Yaeger, 37, of Bend, had violated his probation by using two cellphones to access child pornography and contact underage girls. The officers seized the cellphones during a search of his room, and after further investigation discovered he allegedly tried to kidnap a woman he met on an online dating website two weeks earlier. Child pornography, going to trial over coercion charges admitted by Sex offender

20084207-standard

UTICA, N.Y. — A registered sex offender from Auburn admitted today that he distributed child pornography, but plans to go to trial on charges of trying to coerce what he thought was a 12-year-old boy into sex.

Michael J. Mahannah, 32, pleaded guilty to 18 counts of receiving, possessing and distributing child pornography.

But in an unusual twist, he’s scheduled to go to trial on two more serious charges of trying to coerce someone he thought was a boy into sex.

That trial is scheduled to start May 31 before U.S. District Judge David Hurd.

Mahannah faces a possible mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison for the child pornography charges.

Sex offender release raises school, notification questions

Some Oakwood residents were surprised and upset to see James Uphoff, convicted last year on child pornography charges, back in their neighborhood this week with no notice.

Uphoff was released from prison Saturday, and his home is one block from Oakwood’s junior high/senior high complex. Montgomery County Sheriff’s officials said Wednesday that Uphoff is required to move within 30 days because he is within 1,000 feet of the school.

But Sgt. Julie Stephens said Ohio law does not call for postcard notification of neighbors for Tier 2 sex offenders like Uphoff — the middle level of the three-tier system.

“That’s why we have our website, and people can go there to sign up for alerts, putting their address in and covering any radius up to two miles,” Stephens said.

Vincent ‘Don Vito’ Margera, reality TV star turned sex offender, dead at 59

He was fat. He was slow. He was often intoxicated, and/or appeared to have a speech impediment. If it was an act, it didn’t seem like it. And if he was in on the joke — which ended in 2007, when he was found guilty of molesting two teenage girls and legally barred from portraying his reality TV “character” — it didn’t seem like it.

Now, Vincent “Don Vito” Margera — the uncle of “Jackass”-affiliated prankmeister Bam Margera and the heel of his nephew’s MTV reality show “Viva La Bam” — is dead at 59. Margera battled liver and kidney failure in his final years, as Read More

Convicted sex offender tells FBI ‘I’m busted’ after arrest on child pornography charges

KALIHI (HawaiiNewsNow) –

“I’m busted.”

That’s what a convicted child rapist allegedly said after FBI agents arrested him last week on child pornography charges.

According to federal court documents, undercover agents started watching Michael Kormanik’s computer habits back in March, after child pornography files were shared using his IP address.

For months, agents monitored the Kalihi man and on November 3, say he distributed at least one picture of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

Agents raided his home near Gulick Avenue and School Street, and took his computer. On the device, they said they found more than 1,000 files of “investigative interest” for child pornography.

Court records also say that when Kormanik was confronted with four photos of children under five years old being sexually assaulted, he admitted to having the pictures and that he had collected child pornography for “five to six years.
