Penn Township man charged in child porn case

A 30-year-old Penn Township man has been charged with sharing 21 child pornographic images on his computer, state Attorney General Katheen Kane said Thursday.

Brandon M. Batz of the first block of Shartlesville Road was arraigned Aug. 9 before Senior District Judge William N. Hall Jr. in Reading Central Court on charges of distributing and possessing child pornography on his computer.Batz remains free on $10,000 bail.

According to investigators:Agents with Kane’s office discovered Batz was using a website on his home computer to share images of child pornography.Subsequently, detectives with Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams’ office obtained a search warrant for Batz’s home and found several electronic devices containing images of suspected child pornography.

Penn man a suspected child predator, Pennsylvania attorney general says

A Berks County man is one of four people identified by the Pennsylvania attorney general on Thursday as being suspected child predators. Brandon Michael Batz was found to have multiple images of suspected child pornography on electronic devices that were seized from his home in Penn Township, near Bernville, officials said. The discovery was made after a computer registered to Batz was found on a peer-to-peer network sharing media files believed to depict child porn, officials said.

Batz, 30, was charged with one count of distribution of child pornography, 21 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communication facility.

Students learn about forensics at Central Penn College

EAST PENNSBORO TOWNSHIP—Fans of “CSI” and other crime dramas aren’t getting accurate information on what really takes place behind the scenes of police investigations, and Samuel Morgan is aiming to set the record straight, one student at a time.

The chair of the criminal justice and homeland security management at Central Penn College recently addressed a class of about 40 high school students from around the region who registered for the two-day “Discover Forensics” camp.

Representatives from the Cumberland County District attorney’s office and Shippensburg University forged a partnership with the college to give students a glimpse of what it’s like to work in the field of forensics.
