President Obama Declares ‘National Character Counts Week’

WASHINGTON ― President Barack Obama released a proclamation on Friday declaring next week as “National Character Counts Week.”

The proclamation marking the annual event, which is always the third week in October, takes on a special significance in the middle of a particularly nasty presidential campaign. This week alone, Donald Trump attacked the credibility of multiple women who have come forward to accuse him of sexual assault. He has built his campaign on attacks of several groups, including Mexicans, Muslims and women.

This year’s proclamation calls for us to “recognize the common humanity that makes America what it is.

RAND PAUL PROMISES TO SHUT DOWN NSA DATA CENTER IF HE BECOMES PRESIDENT

Source: National Cyber Security – Produced By Gregory Evans

Republican Senator Rand Paul has been one of the few vocal critics of the U.S. government’s spying programs. He’s the only presidential candidate that has made NSA spying a central topic of their campaign. NSA spying is so important to Rand that he’s promised to shut down the NSA data center if he becomes president. After he stops the indiscriminate collection of Americans’ data, he’ll convert the data center into a “Constitutional Center” where the Fourth Amendment will be studied. “I’m on my way to the airport, but we decided to stop by the NSA facility in Utah. When I become President, we’ll convert it into a Constitutional Center to study the Fourth Amendment! Bulk data collection must end!” Questions of whether the spying programs were unconstitutional have been swirling since 2013 when Edward Snowden made details about the programs public. Snowden is the NSA contractor who copied large amounts of classified documents onto a thumbdrive and leaked the information to journalists. For those that are bothered by the NSA spying programs, Paul seems to be the only candidate that would work to stop it. For the Senator, it’s a major problem that affects virtually all Americans. Last year, Paul […]

Source: National Cyber Security – Produced By Gregory Evans

As candidates hit the campaign trail, NPR looks at four major issues the next president will face from Day 1 in office. When President Obama took office back in 2009, “cybersecurity” was not a word that everyday people used. It wasn’t debated. Then, mega-breaches against consumers, businesses, and the federal government changed that. The latest came Tuesday, when the Internal Revenue Service said criminals used an online service provided by the agency to access the information of more than 100,000 taxpayers. Now, the 45th president will have to come into office with a game plan for how to protect us online. The plan could shape up any number of ways because our digital lives — and the attacks against our digital lives — are pretty new. But it’s something people care a lot about. With Edward Snowden, American citizens learned we’re the target of a mass surveillance program we didn’t know about, and that the National Security Agency, a military agency, is porous, vulnerable to insiders hacking and stealing. With the Sony attack we saw how security breaches can bring big companies to a screeching, embarrassing halt. And let’s not forget the new era of garden-variety crime. Credit card fraud, […]
