St. Marys couple arrested after kids repeatedly fail to show up to school

A St. Marys couple is behind bars after their four children failed to show up to school for months on end, according to the St. Marys Police Department.

The investigation started in February 2017. A school social worker, identified as Dr. Bianca Booker, notified the St. Mary’s Police Department about four students enrolled at Crooked River Elementary School who had “an excessive amount” of unexcused absences and tardies, according to the arrest warrant.

Booker told police that she made several home visits that spanned for months to try and find out why the students were absent, offered the family assistance to help solve the problem, as well as had the mother, identified as Stephanie Cain, attend an attendance panel where she signed a statement promising to fix her children’s absence problem.

The ‘After School Satan Club’ Wants To Show Kids Another Path To The Moral Life

The Satanic Temple seeks to bring an After School Satan Club to elementary schools around the country.

The goal of the group ― which does not promote a belief in any higher being, Satan or otherwise ― is to counteract the influence of religion on school grounds. The Satanic Temple is specifically trying to form clubs in elementary schools that already have Good News Clubs, which are affiliated with evangelical Christianity.

An After School Satan Club would show kids that “there are people with distinctly different religious points of view that are still leading moral and productive lives,” said Satanic Temple spokesman Lucien Greaves (who also goes by the name Douglas Mesner).

It’s Not What We Tell Our Children, It’s What We Show Them

Yet again, parents are asking the question, “What do I tell my children?” after the tragic deaths of Philando Castile, Alton Sterling and five police officers. In the past, I’ve written about how to help children in the aftermath of terrorist attacks, school shootings and the like, but this time, I find myself viewing the situation differently.

This time, instead of trying to find words to explain to our children that there are people who are mentally disturbed and sometimes act out of confusion and pain, I find the question demands a different kind of answer. It isn’t what we tell our children, it is what we show them.

Teacher Uses Bruised Apple To Show Devastating Effects Of Bullying

One woman found an incredibly way to teach a crucial lesson.

Rosie Dutton of Relax Kids, a U.K.-based company that deals with kids’ mindfulness and relaxation, teaches a weekly class for 10- and 11-year-olds. During a recent class, Dutton used apples to brilliantly illustrate the point that the effects of bullying aren’t always so conspicuous.

The coach, who documented the lesson in a now-viral Facebook post, started out by showing the class two typical, perfect-looking apples. But unbeknownst to the students, she had dropped one of the apples repeatedly on the floor. She picked up the dropped apple and began insulting it.

Netflix Kids Show Will Teach Children About Evils Of Donald Trump

If you’ve been worried that there isn’t an easy enough way to help your kids understand the thorny issues of overt racism championed by presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, Netflix — as it often does — has a show for you.

The Emmy-winning Netflix original show “All Hail King Julien,” based on the popular DreamWorks movie-series “Madagascar,” debuts its third season Friday. And there’s an episode about Trump.

Although the King Julien character was not originally intended to be a Trump parody in the “Madagascar” universe, the show’s creators decided the royal lemur could be a perfect teaching tool for the perilous evil of the similarly small-handed candidate.
